In the framework of its thematic network activities on capacity building and curriculum development in the area of intercultural dialogue and multi-level governance the Jean Monnet European Centre of Excellence of the University of Padua organizes in 2011 three international workshops.
The 2 days-Workshop on "Education to intercultural dialogue" concerns educational spaces and learning practices of intercultural dialogue in an interdependent world with a specific focus on concrete (learning) practices, tools and innovative processes of intercultural dialogue in education and training spaces, seen from a comparative European perspective. Special attention will be given to the role of education/training to intercultural dialogue, perceived as an integral part of civic education within a lifelong learning perspective.
On Tuesday morning March 22, Mr. Luc Van den Brande (former president of the EU Committee of the Regions and current special advisor to the European Commissioner of Regional Affairs) will deliver the public Jean Monnet Lecture on “Intercultural dialogue in territorial cooperation: an education perspective”. Within the same broad context of its thematic activities the Jean Monnet Centre organizes 9-10 May 2011 a 2 days-Workshop on "Civil society Participation in Intercultural dialogue”. It mainly concerns the relevance of civil society practices in intercultural dialogue seen from a comparative European and Euro-Mediterranean perspective. Special attention will be given to the role of civil society in cultural dialogue with the analysis of a few case studies. A specific session will be dedicated to Intercultural dialogue practices for a human-centric sustainability in development cooperation.

The Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence organizes a final Workshop in Mid October 2011 on “Cultural and Value Roots for intercultural dialogue in Europe”. It will aim to identify, explore and valorise sources and references to “imagine Europe” in view of contributing to curriculum development in and outside the university, with a focus on strengthening the value basis of Europe. Focus will be on an applied reflection and policy assessment of the cultural and value basis of the European integration process, seen from an internal and external perspective. Special attention will be given to the specific sources and references to imagine Europe’s future as a plural entity and a socio-economic model shaped by a community of shared values, spaces and encounters as well as to the references and sources for Europe’s role and responsibility in a plural and globalizing world.
Invited speakers are Jean Monnet professors, representatives of European institutions and of the network of European Houses of the Founding Fathers.
