4th Regional Conference on Human Rights, Peace and Development Cooperation. Treviso 10 - 11 December 2009

The Veneto of Today for the World of Tomorrow

The fourth edition of the "Regional Conference for Development Cooperation, International Solidarity, Human Rights and the Culture of Peace” will be held in Treviso at the Casa dei Carrara, on 10 and 11 December.

This will be an edition of particular importance, since the year 2009 stands at the crossroads of several important anniversaries: the 50th Anniversary of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, the 20th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the 10th anniversary of the Regional Law no. 55/1999 "Regional measures for the promotion of human rights, the culture of peace, development cooperation and solidarity."

The conference – which is by precise choice coinciding with International Human Rights Day - sees the participation of prominent representatives of European, national and local authorities and institutions.
The event has been structured by themes, which represent the guidelines of the regional policies and actions and outline the scenario of 10 years of regional policies on these issues.

In particular, the morning of 10 December will be entirely dedicated to the theme "Sustainable development and environmental protection" with the participation of Carlo Petrini, President of the Association “Slow Food”.

The afternoon will then be devoted to the presentation of the models of cooperation activated by the Local Authority in synergy with many other players in Region of Veneto.
At the conclusion of the first day there will be a ceremony for the 2009 Award "Veneto for peace and solidarity among peoples", assigned to the South Cimic Group of Motta di Livenza.

The second day has been organized in collaboration with UNICEF, and will be entirely devoted to human rights with the participation of the testimonial Zlata Filipovic, a young Bosnian writer of the Network of young people affected by war.
