Chambers of Deputies: a Commission of Inquiry on Centres for migrants has been established

The Italian Chamber of Deputies approved the creation of a Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry regarding Italy’s migrant reception and identification system as well as the conditions of migrants detained in reception centres (CDA), in reception centres for asylum seekers (CARA) and in identification and expulsion centres (CIE).

Composed of 21 Deputies nominated by the President of the Chamber of Deputies, the new Commission of Inquiry will verify the detention conditions and treatment of migrants as well as the efficiency of these centres. The Commission will consider any possible illegal behaviour which will violate immigrants’ human rights and dignity, and it will also examine the management of these kind of centres. Before completing its mandate, the Commission has to write a final report on its investigation within a year.
