Graduation of the first students in the framework of the double degree programme of the Universities of Padova and Wroclaw

On July the 2nd 2019, three students of the Department of Political Science, Law and International Studies of the University of Padova graduated in International Relations at the University of Wroclaw (Poland), in the framework of the double degree programme established between the Universities of Padova and Wroclaw.
In the next weeks, the students will be awarded also their second degree, in Human Rights and Multi-level Governance, at the University of Padova.
Elena Galzignato, Sheila Compagnucci and Muris Hodzic successfully defended their theses before a mixed commission composed by profs Rataszjak, Michalsky and De Stefani. Their research addressed crucial issues which are at the centre of academic interests in both the partner universities, namely: the rights and migrant women (Elena), the international law tools to prosecute the crimes committed by ISIS (Sheila), and the challenge to human rights posed by the expansion of Chinese business strategies in Europe (Muris). All candidates graduated with full marks and the congratulations of the commissioners.

The double degree scheme foresees that students of either university spend their second year in the partner institution, where they pass a selected list of exams and write the thesis. All activities are automatically recognised by the partner university. As an outcome, students receive two degrees, legally valid respectively in Poland and Italy. The double degree schemes at both at enriching the academic and cultural skills of the graduates and to improve their employability in the Europe-wide.

Since its exception, in 2015, four students from Italy and two from Poland have been awarded the double degree; by the end of 2019 four more students from Wroclaw will complete their curriculum in Padova and will increased the total score of graduates to ten in four years. In the next academic year 2019-20, six more students will be involved in the same Padova-Wroclaw project, while three more, one from Italy and two from France, will participate in the second double degree scheme set up by the Master’s programme in Human Rights and Multi-level Governance, that involves the Universities of Padova, Lyon (Université Catolique) and Grenoble-Alpes. One student from Padova will attend the Master 2 in Histoire, Théorie et Pratique des Droits de l’Homme, while two students from Lyon will be enrolled in the Human Rights and Multi-level Governance Master’s programme.

Congratulations and best wishes to Elena, Muris and Sheila, and good luck to the nine more students that in September will undertake the double degree path in Italy, Poland and France!
