Second High Level Education Course for experts in ‘Civic Education, Human Rights, Citizenship, Constitution’ of the University of Padova is now open for enrolment

The Interdepartmental Center on human rights and the rights of peoples of the University of Padua promotes its second high level education course for educational experts in ‘Civic Education, Human Rights, Citizenship, Constitution.’ The course was born as a result of the fruitful and consolidated collaboration between the Human Rights Center of the University of Padova, the Regional Scholastic Office of the Veneto, and the Department of International Relations and Human Rights of the Region of the Veneto – and serves as a proud addition to the list of activities outlined by the Protocol of Acknowledgement (Protocollo d'Intesa) between the Interdepartmental Center on human rights and the rights of Peoples and the Regional Scolastic Office of the Veneto.

The aims of the course are specifically connected with the new discipline introduced by the Ministry of Education with the Law n. 169 of 30 October, 2008, that institutes a new formative pathway on the theme ‘citizenship and constitution.’ This aim of education in this area seeks to achieve the following:

- Assist the development of professional educators in the areas of civic education, human rights, citizenship, constitution

- Formally work to insert the concepts, values, and key developments-at the national, European, and international levels- of ‘Constitution and citizenship’ into the scholastic curriculum, as they are foundations of the democratic values that have also been assumed by the Italian Constitution and developed by the law and by the universally-acknowledged culture of universal human rights.

Consistent with the more general view of providing a global approach to civic education, the course proposes to offer cognitive data pertaining to existing connections between the universal paradigm of human rights and the exercise of active and responsible citizenship. It does so in order to organically foster connections between human rights and citizenship, national law and international law, between institutions at various levels, between human rights, peace, development and security, between personal and global well-being and social responsibility.

The course is available to professional educators at preschools, primary schools, and secondary schools of the first level, and has a limit of 20 students.
