United Nations: The Italian jurist Mauro Politi has been elected to the UN Human Rights Committee

The Italian jurist, Professor Mauro Politi has recently been elected with 102 votes to the UN Human Rights Committee in New York for the years 2015-2018.

After the election, Mr. Politi expressed acknowledgment for the extraordinary efforts of the Italian Permanent Mission in New York, which made this important election outcome possible. Since 1999, Italy, in fact, has been no longer represented on the Committee: at that time, and since 1984, Professor Fausto Pocar was the last Italian representative on the Committee.

Mr. Politi, professor of Public International Law at the University of Trento, was a judge at the International Criminal Court from 2003 to 2009 and he was also Legal Adviser at the Permanent Mission of Italy to the United Nations from 1992 to 2000. During his mandate in New York, he made a significant contribution to the creation of the International Criminal Court.
