Regional Law 16 December 1999, n. 55 "Regional interventions for the promotion of human rights, a culture of peace, and cooperation to development and solidarity" is today the normative instrument for implementation in the area of regional politics, together with the active involvement of international bodies, local authorities, universities, civil society organizations, and other public and private subjects operating in the Region of Veneto.
Regional Law n. 55/1999 has established:
-The Regional Archive "Pace Diritti Umani - Peace Human Rights" (Art. 2), one of the principal instruments by which the Region of Veneto promotes the culture of human rights and peace.
-The Committee for human rights and the culture of peace (Artt. 12-13), which contributes to the formulation of the Triennial Plan and Annual plans of interventions on human rights and the culture of peace;
-The Committee for Development Co-operation (Artt. 14-15), which contributes to the formulation of the Triennial Plan and Annual plans of interventions on decentralized cooperation to development and international solidarity.
-The Venice Foundation for research on peace (art. 17).
In accordance with Regional Law n. 55/1999, the Region of Veneto promotes various types of initiatives:
-Direct Initiatives: The Region of Veneto contributes actively to the promotion of a culture of human rights and of peace in its territory as well as to the realisation of projects of decentralised cooperation to development and international solidarity;
-Shared Initiatives: numerous planning inititatives of decentralised cooperation are enabled in collaboration with United Nations Programmes or Agencies (FAO, UNESCO, UNHCR and UNDP);
- Initiatives on announcement: through the allocation of regional contributions towards autonomously presented and managed projects by non-profit organisations and associations with offices in the Region of Veneto.
The International Relations, International Cooperation, Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Department is the reference administrative structure to enforce Regional Law n. 55/1999.
