UNDP: new report on the effects of the war in Ukraine on the people

The UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the Human Impact Assessment (HIA) have launched a report about the effects of the war in Ukraine on the people living in the country. Health, education, living conditions, food security and gender violence are the main topics addressed by the joint research.

The report gives a comprehensive overview for all population groups, both in urban and rural places, with particular focus on women, internally displaced persons, older people, persons with disabilities, LGBTQIA+, and Roma communities.

The report shows that 65% of households are experiencing an income decrease since the beginning of the war, and 44% of them are unable to provide enough food for their families. In addition, 11% of the young population is not having access to education, and 3.6 million people are at risk or already facing gender violence.

The report gives recommendations to improve the situation of households in Ukraine by tackling housing and work opportunities, access to health and education, and engaging CSOs and international financial actors. The report also focuses on the post-war situation, stressing the importance of restoring agricultural production, investing in education and skills training, prioritising livelihood interventions, and building inclusive societies.
