University of Siena - Call for applications: Master Politics and Society in Europe (MAPSiE)

The aim of the programme is to offer a post-graduate training providing specific knowledge of the political processes at the European level, increasingly crucial in a situation where national arenas are more and more influenced by supra-national developments and the latter ones have to deal with national and sub-national demands.

The evolution of EU governance will be analysed from a variety of perspectives. At the heart of these activities is the interaction between the effects of European integration and the changing needs of the national and sub-national systems. Graduates can expect to acquire the skills necessary to prepare for a professional career in local agencies, national agencies, international organizations and institutions, or NGOs.

The first semester is comprised of core courses concentrating mainly on political and social realities in Europe. Modules are also designed to offer students a basic knowledge in methods for social sciences and survey research. In the second semester, students have the choice to attend more specific courses focused on EU policies and decision making processes. During the second semester a number of internships and stages at European and Italian institutions will be available. A Master thesis of about 15,000 words must be completed during the summer months and submitted to the coordinator of the programme by the end of September.
The programme counts on the cooperation with TNS opinion, the leading coordination centre for international opinion research and part of Taylor Nelson Sofres PLC (TNS), the world’s largest custom market research company.

The maximum number of participants admitted to the Programme is twenty-five. All courses are held at the University of Siena, Department of Political, Social and Cognitive Sciences (DISPoC).

The programme lasts two semesters, starting in mid October each year, and is offered in English.

A Master Diploma di Secondo Livello will be granted to the students complying with the course obligations.

Application deadline: 19th August 2013
