Closing of the cycle of seminars on the theme "Urban Security and Human Rights"

On Monday 14 June 2010, at the flying squad's head office of the State Police, the cycle of seminars on "Urban Security and Human Rights" will come to an end with a seminar committed to the "Danger of infiltrations of the Mafia in the North-East". The meeting will see the participation of Luigi Savina, Chief of the Police of Padua, Vittorio Borraccetti, formerly Chief Prosecutor of the district of Venice, Carlo Ferretti, Chief of the Department of preventive investigations of the Operative Centre D.I.A. (Direction of Anti-Mafia Investigations) of Padua, Paolo De Stefani from the University of Padua and Don Luigi Tellatin from "Associazione Libera".

The cycle of seminars has been promoted by the the Interdepartmental Centre on Human Rights and the Right of Peoples of the University of Padua and by the police headquarters of Padua in the context of the Memorandum of understandings signed in September 2009. This memorandum provides for the realization of activities of information, education and awareness on themes concerning human rights, intercultural dialogue and security with the partecipation of students and teachers of the Master's Degree Course in Institutions and Policies of Human Rights and Peace and staff members of the State Police.

The meetings cycle is coherent with United Nations and Council of Europe programs devoted to the human rights training of teachers, public servants, businessmen, justice and security employees.

Among the purposes of the meetings there is the aim to give more and more professionality to the studies of the Master's Degree Course in Institutions and Policies of Human Rights and Peace and the aim to promote positive synergies between two institutions that are daily involved in promoting the respect of national and international human rights law, the rule of law, democratic principles and non-discrimination.

The initiative is supported by the Unesco Chair "Human Rights, Democracy and Peace", by the Department for human rights of the Region of Veneto and by the Muncipality of Padua.
