Council of Europe: Democracy’s Firewall Hackathon, Protecting Democracy in the Digital Age, Strasbourg, June 2025

The Council of Europe is organizing a hackathon called “Democracy's Firewall”, an initiative for youth to build tools, strategies, and campaigns that help combat disinformation and protect democratic values online. It is an event targeted to young people aged 18-30, including developers, designers, policy thinkers, and creatives and people passionate about digital democracy, civic tech, and online freedom of expression. The hackathon will take place in June 2025 in Strasbourg, France. The exact dates will be announced soon on the Council of Europe Portal.
This is a chance to develop practical solutions to fight digital threats to democracy and it offers valuable experience, expert mentorship, and the opportunity to contribute to protecting democracy in the digital age. In fact, participants can create tools, campaigns, or platforms to address issues like misinformation, hate speech, and digital exclusion. The winning team will receive a €3,000 prize and the opportunity to present their project to international institutions.
