The Council of Europe Sets Out and Updates Contents and Methods of Civic Education: A Useful Instrument to Consolidate the Programme «Citizenship and Constitution» in the Italian School System

The «European Charter on Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education», endorsed by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on 11 May 2010, marks a very important step in view of recapitulating within a global approach different educational tracks such as education to interculturality, peace education, education for sustainable development, education to equality. The Charter points out that these particular «educations» keep their own specificity but in a context of a larger and holistic knowledge based on the principle of the respect of all human rights for all. The strategic aim of the Charter is to empower people to be capable to take prompt action for the defense and the promotion of human rights and of democratic principles.
