Italy's participation in peacekeeping and other international missions
With the entry into force of Law No. 145 of 21 July 2016 on Italy's participation in international missions, the procedures for the authorisation and financing of missions follow two distinct procedures:
- the procedure for launching new missions set out in Article 2 (deliberation by the Council of Ministers, transmission to the Chambers, parliamentary authorisation by means of acts of direction),
- the procedure for the extension for the following year of those already in progress, applied in the context of a special parliamentary session dedicated to the progress of the authorised missions (Articles 3 and 4).
Article 3 of the law also provides that, by 31 December of each year, the Government shall submit to the Houses of Parliament, for discussion and consequent deliberations, an analytical report on ongoing missions.
