Students of the European Master "Human Rights and Democratisation"

The call for applications for the 2025/2026 academic year is now open.

Deadline for both scholarship and self-funded applicants: 2 February 2025

The European Master’s Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation (EMA) is a one-year post-graduate course that provides a practice and policy-oriented approach to learning that combines legal, political, historical, anthropological, and philosophical perspectives of human rights and democratisation with skill building activities and a field trip exercise.

The students are trained by leading academics representing universities participating in the EMA, experts and representatives of international organisations and NGOs, studying in a multicultural environment.

The programme prepares students to work in national, international, governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations, as well as research institutes dealing with human rights and democratisation.

The Programme is organised by the Global Campus of Human Rights, a worldwide network of universities that seeks to advance human rights and democracy education. EMA was founded in cooperation with 43 universities from all EU member states, the UK and Switzerland.

EMA is both a residential and an exchange programme. The first semester, from September 2025 to January 2026, takes place at the Global Campus of Human Rights in Venice, while the second semester, from February to July 2026, takes place at one of the 43 participating universities spread across the EU, as well as in the UK and Switzerland.
