The Assembly of the National Coordinating body of the Ombudsmen has adopted a Resolution on Law 42/2010

The National Coordinating body of the Ombudsmen, taking note of the Law 42/2010 (which, only for economical reasons, prescribes to the Municipalities to go on to the abolition of the Ombudsman, with the possibility to transfer his functions to the Provincial Ombudsman) has recently adopted a Resolution in which it has expressed its hope that the right of citizens to apply to the Ombudsman will be still ensured and that the abolition of the Municipal Ombudsmen will be evaluated again, in the context of the debate for the new Bill of Autonomies.

At the same time, the Coordination invites Regions, Provinces, Municipalities, as the current law prescribes, to commit themselves to achieve the appointment of the Ombudsman in those Provinces in which this figure is still lacking.

The National Coordinating body of Ombudsmen is an associative organism which works for the planning and the valorisation of the institutional role of Ombudsmen in Italy. It acts to guarantee to citizens, indipendently from their place of residence, protection towards public administration at national, regional and local level. Its role is specifically important in the light of the new international and European framework:  besides developing the  the necessary connections with the Parliament and the Government, it promotes the full implementation of international and European treaties concerning human rights, in particular those included into the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, and it develops relationships with the European Ombudsman and the Ombudsmen of the member states of the Union.

On 21 June 2010, the national Coordinating body of the Ombudsmen signed a Memorandum of understanding with the Human Rights Centre of the University of Padua, with which the activities of the Italian Institute of the Ombudsman will be started.
