Third World Congress for Middle Eastern Studies, Barcelona, July 19th - 24th 2010

The Third World Congress for Middle Eastern Studies, organized by the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed) in cooperation with the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), has recently come to end.

The World Congress sought to address, explore and exchange information on the state-of-the-art in Middle Eastern Studies in its broadest sense. More than 2500 scholars, researchers, educators, students, professionals and other groups interested in studies on North Africa, Middle East, Muslim states of Central Asia as well as other regions of the world which are directly or indirectly affected by affairs in these areas, took part to the Congress, organizing more than 300 thematic workshops.

Prof. Paolo De Stefani and mr. Andrea Cofelice took part to the Congress on behalf of the Interdepartmental Centre on Human Rights and the Rights of Peoples of the University of Padua, with a paper on “Human Rights Regional Systems and their Interaction. Normative and Cultural Dialogue at the Mediterranean Crossroad”. The paper was discussed during the workshop “Toward an Integrated View of Human Rights and Human Development: Theoretical Foundations, Measurement Issues and Policy Implications in Jordan”, organized by the University of Pavia and the Institute for Advanced Study of Pavia, as part of the activities dealing with the international research project “Toward an integrated view of human rights and human development: theoretical foundations, measurement issues and policy implications”, financed by the Italian Ministry of Education and Research.
