The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) concerned for the more than 114 million people displaced by war

The multiple wars going on worldwide, such as in Ukraine, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Myanmar, as well as crises of different nature in Somalia and Afghanistan, are causing concern and alarm for displaced people and consequent violence. The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) declared that over 114 million people in the world have been forced to flee home as of September 2023, because of conflicts, persecution and human rights violations. The number saw an increase of 1.6 million since the end of 2022.

Filippo Grandi, UN High Commissioner for Refugees, called on the international community to work closely in order to end conflicts so that displaced people can return home. The statement by Grandi included concern for the unfolding events in Gaza, Sudan and beyond.

These important issues and topics will be dealt with during the second Global Refugee Forum taking place in Geneva from 13 to 15 December.
