ISTAT report: Covid-19 pandemic slows down SDGs accomplishment in Italy

The Italian Istituto Nazionale di Statistica (ISTAT) has published the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Report (in Italian), which offers statistical measures to monitor the 2030 Agenda for Italy and contributes to the implementation of this global project.

This fourth edition of the Report is accompanied by 354 statistical measures for 135 UN-IAEG indicators. Compared to March 2021, 119 statistical measures have been updated, and 30 new ones have been introduced. In addition, the 17 sustainable goals (SDG) were compared to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP).

Regarding the SDGs, the overall picture is positive, but the report has highlighted the heavy burden of the social-economic impact of Covid-19. For instance, the absolute poverty rate has risen: Currently, 5.6 million people spread throughout the world live in such conditions, representing 9.4% of the world’s population.
