“Changemakers: stories of young human rights educators” - A documentary to empower young people

“Changemakers: stories of young human rights educators is a documentary issued in December 2023 in recognition of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It has been co-produced by UN Human Rights, Amnesty International and Soka Gakkai International.

The documentary presents the lives of seven young human rights educators from different countries and regions of the world. They commit their daily lives to inspire their communities, especially young people, to take action to promote human rights.

Although they come from different backgrounds, they are all dedicated to building a world where human beings are equal. Irfaan Mangera depicts a post-apartheid South Africa, where the fight for justice and equality is not over. For this reason, he created a space for young people to fight racism and bring systemic change.

Soufiane Hennani is active in the field of gender equality and gender diversity in Morocco, where she created a podcast for young people to talk about diversity, acceptance and human rights and challenge gender roles.

Dejana Stošić is from Belgrade and she is committed to fighting gender-based and sexual violence. She encourages girls to report these cases of violence and to speak out.

Maselina Iuta comes from a rural village in Samoa and is an activist for the rights of persons with disabilities. She advocates for the promotion of equal and inclusive opportunities for the deaf community, supported by adequate policies and legislation.

Allán Sánchez Osorio supports the rights of vulnerable children and young people. He raises awareness of their rights so as to prevent human rights abuses.

Aizat Ruslanova from Kyrgyzstan works on educational projects for young people, which include promoting women’s rights and addressing gender-based violence against women.

The movie shows the importance of human rights education. These educational projects revolving around human rights can improve lives and inspire young actors to make important commitments in their communities.
