The Balkans twenty years later. From the return of the war in Europe to the process of European integration, Padua, 11 May 2013
- Event date: 11 May 2013
- Venue: Centro Culturale Altinate/San Gaetano, Padua
On 11 May 2013, the Centro Culturale Altinate/San Gaetano held an international conference on “The Balkans twenty years later. From the return of the war in Europe to the process of european integration”.
The international conference was organised by the “Osservatorio Balcani e Caucaso”, the Human Rights Centre of the University of Padua, the Padua Municipality and the Comitato Padova per i Balkani. The event was supported by “Cerchiamo Pace” project financed by the “Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Trento e Rovereto".
The international community's answer to the crimes against humanity committed in the nineties in the Balkans was the institution of the International Criminal Tribunal for ex Yugoslavia. After twenty years, what evaluation can we draw from the work of this institution?
Hundreds of thousands of women and men, also in Italy, were opposed to the war, and partecipated to humanitarian missions or welcomed people escaping the conflict. What is left of this extraordinary movement of solidarity ?
A conference not to forget what happened and to continue relationship building between the two shores of the Adriatic.
