The right to education is a human right, as declared in article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Convention on the Rights of the Child. January 24th is celebrated in this regard as International Day of Education, as established by the United Nations General Assembly.

On 24th January 2025, technological advancement in relation to education is going to be addressed by the concept “AI and education: Preserving human agency in a world of automation”. Main focus of the program is to discuss the effects of technological development on human agency, in particular around preserving, redefining and promoting human agency.

According to the UN, around 244 million children and young people globally are not receiving education, while illiterate children due to lack of education amount to 617 million. It is vital that the right to education is upheld for all in order for societies to accomplish equality and prosper. The UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development would afterall be successful thanks to education.

Registrations for the International Day Webinar “Lifelong learning in the age of AI” are now open on UN’s website.
