Cities risk to be overwhelmed by the crisis and become the heart of new and more acute social conflicts. Signs of many emergencies are already widely visible in our cities and are becoming more serious every day: work, housing, poverty, services, social inclusion and integration, environmental degradation, reception of asylum seekers, migrants and refugees... And peace, that once seemed to be just a problem for others, is now increasingly threatened in our own communities.
What can Local Authorities and Regions do to face the crisis? How can they respond effectively to the needs and the rights of individuals and families? How can we deal with conflicts and social emergencies that break out in our cities? How can we spread the culture of peace and solidarity and fight episodes of racism, exclusion and violence? What should be the role of Local Authorities and Regions in the growing international disorder? What can Local Authorities and Regions committed for peace do today?
To answer these questions, the National Coordination of Local Authorities for Peace and Human Rights, the Human Rights Centre of University of Padua and the Municipality of Padua organise a National Seminar of study and training that will be held in Padua on Friday, 30 March 2012 from 9.30 to 17.00.
The Seminar will take place at the University of Padua, Palazzo del Bo, Aula Nievo, via 8 febbraio.
The seminar will start with the sharing of experiences and innovative ideas already implemented on the field by Municipalities, Provinces and Regions.
The topics that will be explored in the seminar are: Cities and rights at the time of crisis, Culture and responsibilities of Human Rights Cities; Perugia-Assisi. The march continues in my town.
