Celebration of the "Magna Charta Libertatum" anniversary, Padova, 15 June 2015

In the 800th anniversary of the Magna Charta Libertatum Padua will commemorate simultaneously with the celebration at Runnymede Meadows, United Kingdom.
On June 15th 1215 the Magna Charta Libertatum was promulgated in England, a forerunner of modern constitutions and charters of fundamental rights.
The coming 15th June, Padua will hold a commemoration at the same time of the official celebration which will take place on Runnymede Meadows with the participation of Queen Elisabeth II.
The event in Padua, promoted by the Human Rights Centre of the University of Padova in collaboration with the Assessorato alla Cultura e al Turismo del Comune (Municipal Department for Culture and Tourism), will be held in the Musei Civici, Sala del Romanino, starting from 17:00, free entrance.
The programme will include greetings from Town Councillor Flavio Rodeghiero and by Professor Marco Mascia, Director of the Human Rights Centre, speeches from Professors Francesco Berti and Antonio Papisca on the historical significance and the importance of the Magna Charta.
The known actor Luca Bastianello will read an excerpt from the stage play by Professor Antonio Papisca “Noi, diritti umani. Rappresentazione di dignità umana, et di pace”( We, human rights. Representation of human dignity and peace)
The chorus conducted by Peter Juvarra will accompany various moments of the event with music from Purcell and Haendel.
