Education shall be directed to the full development of the human personality and to the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. It shall promote understanding, tolerance and friendship among all nations, racial or religious groups, and shall further the activities of the United Nations for the maintenance of peace. (Universal Declaration of Human Rights, art. 26.2).
Conclusive meeting of the second High Education Training Course for Experts in Civic Education, Human Rights, Citizenship, Constitution, organised by the Interdepartmental Centre on Human Rights and the Rights of Peoples of the University of Padua in the academic year 2009/2010, in collaboration with the UNESCO Chair Human Rights, Democracy and Peace, the Jean Monnet European Centre of Excellence, the Regional School Office of Veneto and the Department of International Relations and Human Rights of the Region of Veneto.
The Course has represented the accurate response of the Italian academia to the awareness and training activities for school personnel aimed at acquiring knowledge and expertise regarding “Citizenship and Constitution” as provided for in art. 1 of Italian law no. 169 of 30 October 2008.
