The Global Campus of Human Rights Project Department in cooperation with the European Parliament organises the Venice School for Human Rights Defenders that will take place from 18 to 25 June 2022 in the Monastery of San Nicolò, Venice Lido (in presence).
The summer school is a training programme addressed to human rights practitioners and to graduate students from all academic backgrounds willing to deepen and improve their knowledge of human rights topics. It will be an opportunity for the participants to develop human rights defenders’ advocacy skills and expertise, as well as to discuss best practices and ways forward through the exchange of experiences.
Participation in the course will allow the human rights defenders, supported by lecturers and experts, to explore today’s challenges in the field of human rights and to learn how to transfer academic and institutional expertise into the public sphere. Participants will also be instructed on how to professionalise and maximise the impact of their work. Core themes of the course include engaging with UN mechanisms, gender-based violence and conflict-related sexual violence, environmental protection and indigenous rights, LGBTIQ+ rights, and engaging with human rights scepticism.
The number of places is limited and the application deadline is 22 May 2022. For more information and enrolment, please visit the website of the Global Campus of Human Rights.
