On May 7th, the “Extraordinary Action Plan against gender and sexual violence" was presented in Rome at the premises of the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers. The Action Plan was adoped according to article 5 of the Law 119/2013 on gender violence.
The aim of the plan is to represent the political awareness about the instrumental and anthropological dimension of male violence against women in Italy and to further illustrate the connection which exists between discrimination and violence in a social model where the construction of roles still reflects power relations between men and women.
Ms Giovanna Martelli, Councillor of the Prime Minister's Office for Equal Opportunities, commented: “It is the duty of the State to take charge of the entire path of emancipation for women victims of violence through the adoption of public policies tacking the political and cultural approach of the fight against this phenomenon”.
