Student Peace Prize 2021 announcement, 15th October 2020

The Student Peace Prize was established in 1999 as an initiative from volunteers from the International Student Festival in Trondheim (ISFiT). It is awarded biennially to a student or student organisation working to promote peace, human rights and democracy. The prize is a way to support and recognize the brave people in the world that fight for a better future.

To this day, eleven students and student’s organizations from Libya, Burma, East Timor, Zimbabwe, Colombia, Thailand/Burma, Western Sahara, Croatia, Iran, Bahrain and South Africa have received the prize.

Students often play central roles in peace processes and make sacrifices to strengthen human rights. Despite their great engagement, they do not always get a lot of attention around their work for peace, and therefore the Student Peace Prize is an important factor for their appreciation and respect.

The winner of the 12th Student Peace Prize will be announced on 15th October 2020 on a streamed event and awarded at the 14th of February 2021 during the ISFiT 2021 in Trondheim, Norway. The festival will invite 500 students from over 100 different countries to discuss the theme of Creating Knowledge. Applications are open until 27th September.

ISFiT (International Student Festival in Trondheim) is the world’s largest international student festival. It has been organized every second year since 1990, gathering students from all over the world for ten days of dialogue, cultural events, workshops and more.
