United Nations: Implementation and dialogue, the key-words for Colombia

According to UN Special Representative for Colombia Carlos Ruiz Massieu, in order to guarantee the success of the Colombian peace agreement, signed in 2016 between the government and the FARC-EP militia group, and to reduce violence in the country, not only the terms must be fully implemented, but also there must be dialogue with the armed groups that are threatening the country’s stability.

It was announced by Massieu that both Gustavo Petro, Colombian President, and Rodrigo Londoño, ex-commander of the former FARC-EP, made a joint visit to a residential area threatened by an illegal armed group. Such initiative is “an example of how the parties can work together to address the multiple challenges facing the process and to advance implementation” and proves the need for dialogue between parties towards the full implementation of the peace agreement.
