World Forum for Democracy: can democracy save the environment?

Created in the context of the Council of Europe, the World Forum for Democracy is a platform for political decision-makers and activists to debate solutions to key challenges for democracies worldwide and contributes to the evolution of democracy towards more participatory and inclusive structures and institutions.

The ninth Forum, which will take place in Strasbourg from 8-10 November 2021, will be the culmination of a year-long process that starting from November 2020 responds to world events through online discussions and webinars. Each month touches on a different topic: the main subject of August 2021 will be the relation between technology, the environment, and democracy.

Environmental challenges are raising a range of questions about the intersections between climate change, the uses and application of innovative technology, and the ability of democracies to respond to these emergencies. The discussion in August will be on the role and the challenges of technology in the creation of a greener and more sustainable future.

August's Forum talk will be on Wednesday 11 August, 4:30-6:00 PM, and will consist of presentations from the invited experts followed by an interactive discussion with participants. Click here for more information.
