Civil Service at the Human Rights Centre? Call for applications now open for the "We are not just the future" project. Application deadline: 8 April 2026

The University Centre for Human Rights "Antonio Papisca" is launching the new 2026 Universal Civil Service project We are not just the future: nuove generazioni, diritti umani, innovazione e sostenibilità (location code 226802), aimed at 4 young people aged between 18 and 28.

The project is carried out in collaboration with the Digital Learning and Multimedia Office, the GIScience and Drones for Good Laboratory, and the Department of Economics and Management "Marco Fanno" as part of the "Weaving bonds, building communities" programme promoted by the University of Padova, which comprises 6 Universal Civil Service projects with a total of 66 places available.

At the Human Rights Centre, volunteers will have the opportunity to experience an international environment and will be involved in numerous activities:

  • collaboration and support in organising conferences and study seminars on human rights, peace culture and nonviolence;
  • research, writing and publication of news and in-depth articles in Italian and English on project themes, to be published on the Centre's website;
  • collaboration in developing the "Italian Human Rights Yearbook" and "Inclusion and Eco-social Justice" sections;
  • active involvement in initiatives with local authorities, associations and students;
  • support for the production and development of video, photographic and graphic content;
  • updating, content creation and management of social media profiles and collaborative platforms in use;
  • collaboration in organising and promoting specific activities (annual international conference, Human Rights Day and international days, civil service promotion);
  • collaboration with lecturers and technical-administrative staff of the Centre for support activities provided to the European Master's in Human Rights and Democratisation, the Master's degree programme in Human Rights and Multi-level Governance, the PhD Programme in Human Rights, Society and Multi-level Governance, and the National PhD in Peace Studies;
  • collaboration in various activities promoted by the Centre, including the General course on "Peace and Nonviolent Transformation of Conflicts" and the Padova Model UPR.

General information on Universal Civil Service (SCU)

Young people with Italian citizenship, or from other European Union member states, or from non-EU countries provided they are legally resident in Italy, aged between 18 and 28, may participate in the selection. The selection process and activities require at least a basic knowledge of the Italian language.

Universal Civil Service lasts 12 months, requires a commitment of 25 hours per week, includes specific training activities, and provides a monthly allowance of €519.47.

When submitting your application, to carry out your SCU year at the Human Rights Centre, select location code 226802 and the project name "We are not just the future: nuove generazioni, diritti umani, innovazione e sostenibilità".

The deadline for submitting applications is 8 April 2026, 2:00 pm.
