Peace Human Rights Governance Journal: New article on the Drafting Process of Human Rights Soft Law

Cover Peace Human Rights Governance Journal PHRG - 2017

The online first practitioner paper of the Peace Human Rights Governance Journal “The Drafting Process of Human Rights Soft Law” has been published by the Padova University Press. Peace Human Rights Governance (PHRG) is the peer-reviewed completely open access journal of the University of Padova Human Rights Centre 'Antonio Papisca'. It constitutes a new resource within the increasingly broad and multi-faceted scientific community engaged in the study of human rights, which aims to present original theoretical and empirical contributions on current human rights issues while fostering the development of a robust multi-disciplinary and multi-level approach to research and scholarly dissemination on these topics.

The practitioner paper, by Stefano Valenti, illustrates the complex collaborative process for developing international human rights soft law instruments. The article describes a multi-phased journey, starting from problem identification and culminating in final adoption. This process encompasses the involvement of multiple stakeholders, extensive drafting and negotiation phases, as well as efforts aimed at building consensus.
