The registration for the International Conference on "The Role of Human Rights Research: Current Challenges and Future Opportunities” is now open.

The University of Padova Human Rights Centre, in the framework of the activities of the International Joint Ph.D. Programme 'Human Rights, Society, and Multi-level Governance', is organizing an International Conference on the 'Role of Human Rights Research: Current Challenges and Future Opportunities'. The Conference will take place on 27th and 28th November 2017.

The event aims primarily at delving into the various facets of the broader debate on the potential and limits of current and future human rights research from different disciplinary perspectives, and at providing an original contribution to discuss and improve the policy- and action-oriented effectiveness of human rights research. The call for papers, which ended the 24th of September, saw dozens of scholars, researchers, and doctoral students presenting more than 90 abstracts, where 32 were selected. The full programme, available on the conference page, includes two plenary sessions and six parallel panels.

The plenary sessions address the limits and possibilities of human rights research from a theoretical-methodological point of view and a series of non-academic perspectives.

The six panels, organized and managed by several human rights institutes, will address the following specific aspects of human rights research:

  • Genocide, ecocide, and protection of minorities;
  • Social justice and public health;
  • Research from a Human Rights approach;
  • Research from a local perspective;
  • Interculturality;
  • Women's Rights;

The conference will conclude with a closing plenary speech on the dilemmas of combining political activism and academic research in Human Rights.

To register, it is necessary to complete the form to indicate the panel(s) one wishes to participate in.

Those who follow all the sessions will be given a certificate of participation.
