Advisory body established in 2007, the FRA is the main technical tool available to the EU with the task of supporting European and national institutions in the promotion and protection of human rights.

FRA's research work is mainly developed through the collection and comparative analysis of data on the situation of fundamental rights in different EU member states, including Italy. The FRA may also adopt opinions on aspects concerning the protection of fundamental rights in the EU.  

To facilitate cooperation and information exchange with civil society organizations working on human rights in the EU, the FRA uses the Fundamental Rights Platform (FRP).
