Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), which is made up of delegations from the national parliaments of the CoE member states, has 18 members for Italy, including senators and deputies; as many are the alternate members.
The Assembly is a forum for discussion of the main issues within the mandate of the Organization and has advisory functions in relation to all international conventions elaborated in this context. It meets in plenary session four times a year and elects the judges of the European Court of Human Rights, the Commissioner for Human Rights, the CoE Secretary General and his deputy. Italian parliamentarians also participate and contribute to the work of various parliamentary committees on various issues relating to human rights, the rule of law and democracy.
