The Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO)
The Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO) is the body responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence («Istanbul Convention») by States that have ratified it, including Italy.
GREVIO’s main function is to prepare and make public evaluation reports on legislative and other measures taken by the parties to implement the provisions of the Convention. If necessary, in case of serious and persistent violations, GREVIO can initiate a special investigation procedure. It may also adopt general recommendations on the themes and principles of the Convention. In addition to electing GREVIO’s members, the Committee of Parties completes the monitoring procedure of the Istanbul Convention by following up GREVIO reports and conclusions and adopting recommendations to the countries concerned.
GREVIO is currently composed of 15 independent experts with multidisciplinary expertise in the fields of human rights, gender equality, violence against women, domestic violence, and victim assistance and protection.
