Armed conflicts and Red Cross (A.Y. 2016/2017)
The third annual workshop on Humanitarian Law and Red Cross is organised by the MA in Human Rights and Multi-level Governance and the Italian Red Cross Committee of Regione Veneto. It is aimed at presenting, with both theoretical and practical approach, the humanitarian challenges associated with armed conflict and climate change, as well as enhancing the knowledge about International Humanitarian Law.
The three-day workshop is divided into two parts: seminar and simulation. In the seminar day, held in Padua on 4 May 2017, qualified representatives of the Italian and Croatian Red Cross presented the following topics: IDL (Disaster Response Law); Humanitarian Law - the role of the Red Cross components; media relations in armed conflicts; health care during conflicts; cultural property protection; RFL (Restoring Family Links).
The simulation took place at the CRI regional centre in Jesolo, on Saturday 6 May. The students were assisted by CRI staff in simulating various scenarios representing different forms of humanitarian emergency, including natural disaster; the arrival of asylum seekers; management of a camp for displaced people following a natural disaster; and the protection of cultural assets threatened by armed conflict.
The morning of Sunday 7 May was dedicated to experience sharing and general discussion. Each group presented their experience developed during the workshop. The students were also given the chance to know how the Red Cross components work by meeting the CRI volunteers, leaders and Red Cross delegates.
