Human Rights Orchestra in Concert, University of Padova, 8 June 2016

Wednesday June, 8th 9.00 pm

Musicians for Human Rights will perform in Padova on Wednesday June, 8th at 9pm in Sala dei Giganti of Palazzo Liviano with prestigious soloist from the Human Rights Orchestra conducted by Alessio Allegrini, first horn of the Santa Cecilia National Orchestra.

The programme displays music by Olivier Messiaen, Felix Mendelssohn, Dmitri Shostakovich, Maurice Ravel, Johannes Brahms. Musicians from Conservatory of Padova will join Musicians for Human Rights for the execution of a sonata by Ludwig van Beethoven.

The concert ends a series of seminars on 'Music and Human Rights', organised by the Human Rights Centre of the University of Padova in collaboration with Musicians for Human Rights in the framework of the MA Human Rights and Multilevel Governance of the University of Padua.

Both music and human rights knowledge (le savoir des droits humains) share the same creative and empowering potential in a frame of living humanism and quality education aimed at developing a universal culture of human rights and responsibilities.

MUSICIANS FOR HUMAN RIGHTS

Alessio Allegrini
First soloist horn of the Santa Cecilia National Orchestra and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra founded by Claudio Abbado. Founder and president of Musicians for Human Rights and director of the Human Rights Orchestra.

Gabriele Geminiani
Graduated with top mark, laude and honour. He collaborated as the main cello with the Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala. In those years he engaged in tournée as the first cello all around the world. He taught at the Conservatorio di musica “ S. Cecilia” of Rome.

Oliver Kern
Concert pianist and music professor at Frankfurt Musikhochschule. He won prestigious international competitions such as "Beethoven” in Vienna e “ARD” in Munich. He performs concerts and master classes throughout the world.

Sarah Sew
She performed important roles such as those of Concert Master in the European Union Youth Orchestra, first violin in the RTÉ Concert Orchestra in Ireland and lecturer at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. She often performs as Assistant Concert Master in the BBC Symphony Orchestra and in the Camerata Ireland.
