Managing Humanity (A.Y. 2018/2019)

Humanitarian Matters
Rescue operation simulation, rescuers

The 5th annual humanitarian workshop organised by the Italian Red Cross Local Branch Padua in collaboration with the Masters in "Human Rights and Multi-level Governance" at the University of Padua.

This workshop aims to present, with a theoretical and practical approach, the humanitarian challenges associated with armed conflict, climate change and how the Movement is able to manage these causes, in Italy and abroad.

The first phase of the workshop took place in Padua. The participants attended an 8-hour seminar, which was organised in two-afternoon sessions on the structure and origins of the Movement, the role of the ICRC and the ICRC delegate, International Humanitarian Law, Climate Change and how to reduce its risks and finally the Restoring Family Links service (RFL).

The second phase took place in a beautiful park with the background of the Castle dei Da Peraga, in Peraga di Vigonza. Here the participants deepened their knowledge of the Geneva Conventions and experiment with their newfound competences in a role-play regarding the International Humanitarian Law. The participants were assisted by the Red Cross Local Branch of Padua in the grounds of the Castle dei Da Peraga, which hosted this initiative for the second year. The themes for an in-depth study are the followings: the role of the ICRC in armed conflict with particular reference to prisoners of war, protection of health care in conflict zones, restoring family links and the risks associated with climate change.

The workshop was concluded successfully with a round table meeting.
