The seminar takes place on the International Day of Peace, on the same day of the United Nations General Assembly's high-level meeting on "The Future We Want, the UN We Need: Reaffirming Our Collective Commitment to Multilateralism", which will be held at the Glass Palace in New York. The seminar takes place on the International Day of Peace.
Climate change, viruses, unemployment, wars, migration, mafias... To overcome these challenges and avoid new disasters we need solidarity, dialogue and international cooperation. Yet multilateralism, the UN and the whole international system of protection of human rights built in the last 75 years are under a very serious attack. Selfishness and nationalism are making the world increasingly vulnerable, blind and deaf. We must react.
Covid-19 reminds us that we are all citizens of the world, inhabitants of the same planet, part of the same human family. Against cynicism, distrust and resignation, the time has come to reaffirm, all together, the values and principles, the vision and the project that, after two world wars and seventy million deaths, led to the founding of the United Nations.
The alternative to the UN is international chaos, the law of the strongest, the multiplication of devastation and wars.
The Seminar is part of the 3rd edition of SOLIDARIA - The city of solidarity, promoted by the Provincial Volunteer Service Center of Padua, which will take place in Padua from 21 to 27 September 2020.
The International Seminar is promoted by: Human Rights Center "Antonio Papisca" and UNESCO Chair "Human Rights, Democracy and Peace" of the University of Padua; Municipality of Padua; National Coordination of Local Authorities for Peace and Human Rights; Promoting Committee of the PerugiAssisi March for Peace and Fraternity; Peace Table; Regional Archives "Peace Human Rights" of the Veneto Region and the Provincial Voluntary Service Center of Padua.
