Introduction
The Australian Government has funded disability advocacy services for over 20 years and during this time a range of advocacy service models have been developed. Opinions around the definition of advocacy, the characteristics of the different advocacy models and the intended outcomes of advocacy vary greatly, both within Australia and internationally.
Funding provided through the National Disability Advocacy Program (NDAP) currently supports six models of advocacy:
- Citizen
- Individual
- Family
- Parent
- Self
- Systemic.
