Trans Media Guide: A Community-informed, inclusive guide for journalists, editors & content creators by TGEU (Transgender Europe)

TGEU (Transgender Europe), a trans-led non-profit for the rights and wellbeing of trans people representing 215 member organizations across 50 countries in Central Asia and Europe, has recently published a new Trans Media Guide encompassing suggestions on how to cover stories about trans and nonbinary people.

Available in English, this trans media guide compiles several experiences on inclusive, trans- and non-binary- informed journalism and representation. The guide was developed in tight cooperation with TGEU members.

The Trans Media guide is divided in five key parts: Practice, Key themes, Myth busting, The glossary and Cheat sheet: A quick checklist. Starting from the first topic, the guide includes practical examples on how to ethically and respectfully cover stories about trans and non-binary people, referencing reliable sources for contact information and verified data; key issues concerning trans communities; a summary of harmful myths, especially those which are propagated by the media based on misinformation; key definitions approved by trans-informed journalists and civil organizations; and finally an outline of all the recommendations.

The guide is especially intended for journalists, content creators and editors, collecting recommendations and expertise from previous publications and guidelines.
