Anna Lindh Foundation: Meeting of the High Level Advisory Group for a Renewed Strategy of Intercultural Dialogue in the Emerging Mediterranean. Brussels 22 November 2011
On the 22nd November the Anna Lindh Foundation is organising the Meeting of the High Level Advisory Group for a Renewed Strategy of Intercultural Dialogue in the Emerging Mediterranean at the European Commission Headquarters in Brussels.
Six years after the launch of the Anna Lindh Foundation, the Euro-Mediterranean region faces historical changes. The democratisation processes going on in many Arab countries, the economic crisis and the emergence of innovative expressions of social demands and participation are impacting on the societies of the region. They constitute new and significant challenges and opportunities for the work of the Anna Lindh Foundation.
The Meeting aims to discuss these topics by bringing together 60 personalities including, for the first time, members of the 2003 'Groupe des Sages' (the forefathers of the Foundation commissioned by then President of the European Commission, Romano Prodi), members of the Foundation's Advisory Council, and strategic partners, among them the Arab League, the European Parliament, the Council of Europe, UNESCO and the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations.
The meeting will begin with the opening remarks of Stefan Füle, European Union Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy, and André Azoulay, President of the Anna Lindh Foundation.
Prof. Léonce Bekemans, Academic Coordinator of the European Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence of the University of Padua and member of the 2003 working group assisting the Groupe des Sages will participate in the event.
