Call for Papers for the First International Conference of PhD Students in Peace Studies

Deadline: 12 June 2026

The first International Conference of PhD Students in Peace Studies will take place at Sapienza University of Rome from 7 to 9 September 2026, bringing together doctoral candidates and early-career researchers engaged in the interdisciplinary study of peace, conflict transformation and social coexistence. The conference is promoted by Sapienza University of Rome and the Rete delle Università Italiane per la Pace and is organised by doctoral students of the National PhD Programme in Peace Studies. The initiative reflects the growing importance of fostering academic research capable of addressing contemporary global challenges through the lenses of peacebuilding, dialogue and international cooperation.

The conference aims to provide a platform for discussion and exchange among young scholars from different disciplinary backgrounds, encouraging innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to the study of peace. Participants are invited to submit proposals addressing a wide range of themes, including human rights, conflict resolution, sustainable development, migration, social cohesion, restorative justice, international relations, environmental sustainability and peace education. The programme will consist of twelve parallel thematic sessions alongside a joint poster session, creating opportunities for dialogue across diverse fields of research.

The initiative is rooted in the broader objectives of the National PhD in Peace Studies, which seeks to promote advanced research on the dynamics of conflict, reconciliation, mediation and peaceful coexistence among peoples and cultures. Through its interdisciplinary perspective, the programme brings together expertise from the social sciences, humanities, law, education and international studies, highlighting the central role of research in addressing contemporary global challenges and advancing cultures of peace.

Researchers interested in participating are invited to submit their proposals through the dedicated application platform. The deadline for the submission of papers is 12 June 2026, while the results of the selection process for panel presentations and poster sessions will be communicated by 7 July 2026. The conference will be conducted in both Italian and English, further promoting international academic exchange and collaboration.

By creating a space for critical reflection and interdisciplinary dialogue, the conference represents an important opportunity to strengthen research networks and contribute to the development of knowledge and practices aimed at promoting peace, human rights and social justice at both local and global levels.
