Centre of Excellence Jean Monnet of the University of Padova: International Conference on Climate Justice, 27 October 2021 from 4:30 to 7:30 PM. Registration open!
On Wednesday 27th October 2021 from 4:30 to 7:30 PM, the Centre of Excellence Jean Monnet of the University of Padua, coordinated by professor Massimo De Marchi, will host an online International Conference on Climate Justice.
The main goal of the conference is to promote a dialogue between the scientific community, civil society and politicians. The conference will discuss the topic of energy transition, with a focus on the difference between the concepts of "carbon neutral" and "carbon zero". Another key topic of discussion will be the so-called "unburnable carbon" – fossil fuel energy sources, which physically cannot be burned if the world is to adhere to any given temperature outcome.
Among the speakers: professor Meike Becker of the Geophysical Institute of the University of Bergen; representatives of the Global Carbon Budget; Harjeet Singh of the Global Initiative The Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty; Chase Iron Eyes of the Lakota People’s Law Project; Luca Saltalamacchia, lawyer of the campaign Giudizio Universale; and civil society representatives of the COP26 Coalition.
The conference will be held in English and it will be simultaneously translated into Italian and Spanish. To participate, it is possible to register here.
