Civil Peace Corps financed: Italian Parliament converted into law Decree-Law of 14 March 2025

On May 7, 2025, the Senate converted the Decree-Law of March 14, 2025, n. 25 into law, making some modifications to the original text. This important legislative measure contains urgent provisions regarding recruitment and functionality of public administrations.
Among the most significant changes made during the conversion process, the introduction of Article 4-bis, concerning the Civil Peace Corps (CPC), stands out. This provision authorizes funding of 2 million euros for each of the years 2025, 2026, and 2027, thus ensuring the continuation of CPC activities.
The refinancing of the Civil Peace Corps represents an important step forward in supporting nonviolent civil interventions in areas of conflict, at risk of conflict, or environmental emergency. This decision reflects the government's commitment to promoting mediation, dialogue, and democratic principles, also in line with the objectives of the UN Resolution on Youth, Peace, and Security. The stabilization of this funding for the next three years will therefore ensure the continuity of crucial projects for conflict prevention and emergency management at the international level. Indeed, the Civil Peace Corps operate in a wide range of sectors crucial for promoting peace and stability. They are also involved in monitoring human rights and humanitarian law, as well as in activities supporting refugees, displaced persons, and migrants. The Civil Peace Corps play a fundamental role in the prevention and nonviolent transformation of conflicts, contributing to the construction of more resilient and peaceful societies.
