Commission for International Adoptions: the data for 2024
The Commission for International Adoptions has published data on adoption procedures in 2024.
The Commission, based at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and chaired by the Prime Minister, oversees and verifies the process of international adoptions. In particular, adoption procedures must comply with the 1993 Convention on Protection of Children and Co-operation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption.
In 2024, compared to 2023, there was an increase in the number of completed adoption procedures, particularly adoptions from Hungary and Colombia. In fact, in 2024 the total number of adoptions was 536, compared to 478 in 2023, and 563 in 2022. However, there is a decrease in the number of international adoptions from India (a country that for years has offered greater adoption opportunities for Italian couples).
