On Tuesday June 22 in Brussels the eleventh Atelier of the Committee of the Regions will be held with the following title: The elaboration of a European Charter on Multilevel Governance; a strengthened commitment to a multilevel democracy.

The working activities will be aimed at establishing the principles and the methodologies to develop a shared comprehension of European governance to be based on the respect of the principle of subsidiarity. This will support regional and local authorities and the process of centralization in EU member, candidate and neighbour states. It will also constitute a guarantee of political will for the respect of the independence of local and regional authorities and their involvement in the European decision-process.

The process for the drafting of this European Charter is in continuity with the proposals included in the White book on Multilevel Governance adopted by the Committee of the Regions in June 2009.

The event, promoted by the CoR, will see the participation of Prof. Antonio Papisca and Prof. Marco Mascia from the European Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence Intercultural dialogue, human rights and multilevel governance.
