Council of Europe 2020 North-South Prize Award Ceremony: focus on right to life and climate change
On December 9 2021, the 2020 North-South Prize of the Council of Europe was awarded to two institutions working respectively to protect the right to life and to combat climate change.
The International Commission against the Death Penalty (ICDP) was awarded the prize in recognition of its contribution to the protection of the right to life and its dedication to international solidarity and global partnership. Twenty-two personalities and twenty-three States contribute to the ICDP's mission, working toward the universal abolition of the death penalty.
The Mediterranean Expert Network on Climate and Environmental Change (MedECC) was awarded the prize for its elaboration of the first-ever scientific assessment on the impact of climate and environmental change in the Mediterranean basin. The MedECC is composed of over 600 scientists from 35 the Mediterranean and the European States dedicated to environmental research and policy planning.
