European Parliament Disability Rights Week
From 1 to 5 December, the European Parliament will host the third edition of the week dedicated to the rights of persons with disabilities, which will also coincide with 3 December, the International Day for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
This year’s theme focuses on promoting and building societies that fully include persons with disabilities, with the aim of fostering social progress.
The initiatives scheduled throughout the week will also involve the European Disability Forum, which will once again reaffirm the importance of the slogan “Nothing about us without us”. This motto places at the centre, and strongly emphasises, the need for the active participation of persons with disabilities in all decisions affecting their lives.
During the week, the work carried out by the various Member States of the European Union in implementing the 2006 United Nations Convention will be monitored in order to assess the progress achieved so far. The construction of a more inclusive society therefore remains an open, ongoing process.
In this perspective, the Disability Rights Week is part of this broader pathway of growth and aims to contribute to the development of a more inclusive society and a better future for all.
