The European Parliament has recently adopted a resolution on the brutal repression against protesters in Iran, (2026/2565(RSP)).

In this resolution, the European Parliament recalls the events and nationwide protests that have been breaking out in Iran since 28 December 2025, underlines that Iran has “consistently failed to meet the basic needs of its population” and that the Iranian security forces, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the police, have “carried out a systematic violent nationwide crackdown on protesters, using lethal force enabled by Chinese equipment and surveillance technology, and murdering and detaining thousands of peaceful demonstrators”.

The resolution highlights that the events described constitute serious violations of international human rights law and a violation of international human rights obligations to which Iran is subject to.

The European Parliament condemns the brutal repression and mass murders perpetrated by the Iranian regime against protesters, expresses its full solidarity with the Iranian people, demands the end of use of violence against peaceful protesters, calls for an immediate release of all imprisoned demonstrators and political prisoners, and extends its condolences to the families of the victims.
